Malealea Lodge is situated in a remote part of Western Lesotho, perfect for a 2 to 3 night stay en-route from Johannesburg to Cape Town, East London or Port Elizabeth and en-route from the Drakensberg or Durban to Graaff-Reinett. Wayfarer; Pause and Look Upon A Gateway of Paradise" (Inscription on the rock by Mervyn Bosworth-Smith, founder of Malealea, Trading Station in the early 1900's - now Malealea Lodge.) 

Malealea Lodge offers “Lesotho in a Nutshell” where you get to experience the “Real Africa”. There is a wide variety of accommodation available from camping to en-suite rondavels. There is plenty of cultural interaction with the local village where you can go on guided village walks, visit the museum, the reclaimed donga and even taste some local beer. Various Basotho Children's choirs and a Local Basotho Band, using their home-made instruments, entertain the guests in the evenings around a campfire. Relax on the lodge lawns, enjoy the coffee shop, fill up on the "world-famous" scrumptious carrot cake, home-cooked meals and breathe in the surrounding peaceful nature & beauty. For the more adventurous, you can explore Lesotho’s magnificent mountains and valleys, waterfalls and Bushman paintings on spectacular hiking, pony trekking and mountain biking and 4 x 4 trails to suit every level of fitness. Th treks & trails range from 1 hour to 6 days or longer. 

Malealea lodge offers a wide range of accommodation to suit all budgets, from camping facilities, old farmhouse buildings that have been converted into en-suite rooms and more comfortable thatched rondavels. Meals are served and there is a communal self-catering kitchen for those wishing to bring their own food.
